Arts in the Garden

I am thrilled to have been selected to show new paintings at Wing Haven Garden this week (details below). "Wing Haven" is a very appropriate name for this space, because it is also a bird sanctuary. I am a huge fan of Wing Haven. It is located right in the heart of Charlotte, and is an oasis of peace and calm in an otherwise busy urban area.

Even though Wing Haven Garden is a relatively small area--less than three acres--it has a huge heart. It is one of those rare places where time appears to have stood still. The personalities of those who created this place still sing through, loud and clear. Elizabeth and Edwin Clarkson are the generous couple we have to thank for this legacy. They created this
gracious garden from scratch as they nurtured plants and birds around their Myers Park house, starting in 1927. Their home still stands much as it was at the time, and the gardens are real treasure.

Works by the Featured Artists

One of the missions of Wing Haven is to cultivate the legacy of Southern horticulture. I am happy to be a small part of the effort to support this mission. The "Arts in the Garden" event will be held on October 20, 2016, 6 to 8:30 PM. It's a great opportunity to stroll through the gardens and enjoy live music and cocktails!

The event will feature eight local artists, showing paintings, ceramics, jewelry, blown glass and more. One of my favorite jewelry artisans, Laura James, will be showing her wonderful creations. For details, click here. Tickets are limited, and tend to sell out. Fingers crossed for good weather!
